Preference
Points: Selection
from the waiting list will be based
on preference points, then date and time of application. The following
preferences are available based on the defined criteria:
Homelessness:
20 Points Shall be given to members or families who
meet WHA criteria
for homelessness: You must be an individual or family who lacks a
fixed,
regular, and adequate nighttime residence, meaning: Has a primary
nighttime
residence that is a public or private place not meant for human
habitation
(such as a car, park, abandoned building, condemned building, airport,
train
station, or bus station), is living in a publicly or privately operated
shelter
designated to provide temporary living arrangements (including
congregate
shelters, transitional housing, and hotels and motels paid for by
charitable
organizations or by federal, state and local government programs), is
exiting
an institution where (s)he has resided for 90 days or less and who
resided in
an emergency shelter or place not meant for human habitation
immediately before
entering that institution, or lacks a verifiable address for the past
six
months AND is in a situation where more than one family is living
overcrowded
(more than two people to a bedroom) in a residence. A referral will be
required
from Piedmont Judicial Specialty Courts, Peace Place Domestic Violence
Shelter,
Advantage Behavior Health Systems-Jefferson or Winder or North East
Georgia
Homeless Veteran’s Shelter.
Working/ Income
Preference: 50 Points Applicants with an adult
family member enrolled
in an employment training program, currently working for a third party
a
minimum of twenty (20) hours a week at or above the minimum wage, or
attending
school on a full-time basis. This preference is also extended equally
to all
elderly families and all families whose head or spouse is receiving
income
based on their inability to work.
Displaced
person(s): 25 Points Individuals or families
displaced by government
action or whose dwelling has been extensively damaged or destroyed as a
result
of a disaster declared or otherwise formally recognized pursuant to
Federal
Disaster Relief Laws
Veterans:
25 Points
shall be given to members of the armed services on active duty or those
who
served and were discharged with anything other than a dishonorable
discharge. Appropriate
proper
documentation will be required. (DD214).
Once your
application is received you will remain on the
waiting list until you are nearing the top of the waiting list. You may
check
your placement on the waiting list and update your information through
our
portal.
